Reciprocity

An EMS Provider from another State may obtain a Pennsylvania EMS Certification through a process know n as Reciprocity. This is the process whereby a person certified in a state other than Pennsylvania can apply to obtain EMS certification. The Pennsylvania Department of Health allows providers with current State or National Registry certification to apply for certification by endorsement without testing, if they meet the following conditions:

  • An Individual who is currently State or National Registry certified as an EMT or EMT-Paramedic.
  • Completed a course that follows U. S. Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum that meets or exceeds, the standards of training required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
  • Completed a State or National Registry certification examination that meets or exceeds our standards

Regional Councils in Pennsylvania are broken down by county. Please select the appropriate county in Pennsylvania where you will be residing. If you are not going to reside in Pennsylvania, your regional council will be determined by the county you will be working in.
