Renew Certification

To maintain or renew PA EMS certification, providers must complete the required continuing education credits for their certification level and hold a current PA DOH approved CPR card.

 

Continuing Education:

An EMS provider must complete continuing education to renew their EMS certification.

Requirements:

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE VEHICLE OPERATOR (EMSVO):

  • Successfully complete 3 continuing education credits if the registration is on a 3-year cycle and 2 continuing education credits if the registration is on a 2-year cycle in subjects related to the scope of practice of an EMSVO regarding effective driving of a ground EMS vehicle. If you hold certification as an EMR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, PHRN, PHPE, or PHP, the continuing education for EMSVO is in addition to the continuing education needed for your EMS provider certification.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER (EMR):

  • 16 credits completed within every 3-year registration period with AT LEAST 12 of the 16 credits in clinical patient care and core education.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT):

  • 24 credits completed within every 3-year registration period with AT LEAST 18 of the 24 credits in clinical patient care and core education.

ADVANCED EMT, PARAMEDIC, PHRN, PHPE, PHP:

  • 36 credits completed within every 2-year registration period with AT LEAST 27 of the 36 credits in clinical patient care and core education.

 

CPR Requirement:

A PA DOH approved and a current CPR card is required to be on file in the state EMS Registry for your EMS certification. Upload your CPR information in your provider profile in the PA EMS Registry: https://ems.health.pa.gov/registry/
